Steve's Donut is a variant of the Big Fat Snare Drum dampeners. These dampeners quickly and easily transform your snare drum sound to a quite different soft, deep, and dead sound universe. More precisely, the sound of a 70's and 80's snare.
Unlike the model The Orignal, Steve's Donus has, as the name might reveal, a hole in the center.
The hole makes the disc lighter and therefore it does not give as deep a sound as The Original. However, you get a more natural playing surface because the hole allows you to hit your own drum head.
Furthermore, the donut shape gives a shorter resonance which means that even though The Original is heavier, Steve's Donut actually dampens the sound more.
With STeve's Donut you almost get two snare drums in one. Because the disc is so easy to put on and remove again, you can change your snare drum sound in a second.
Big Fat Snare Drum discs are often used permanently but also as an extra - a so called AUX snare drum - to the left of the hihat or as a replacement for the first floor tom.
