Compared to the Snare Bourine from Big Fat Snare Drum, the Donut has a hole in the center.

Because of the hole in the center, the tone is not dampened as much as with the Snare Bourine. However, the drum's resonance is shorter and more dead with the donut.

As a last bonus, the hole makes your own drum head visible and thereby gives you your normal feel when playing, as you hit your original drum head.
